Working on one side at a time, glue and nail the side to the back. Apply glue and drive three 1-5/8-in. nails into each shelf, attach the other side and nail those shelves into place to secure them. Clamps are helpful to hold the unit together while you’re driving nails. Center the top piece, leaving a 2-in. overhang on both sides, and glue and nail it into place. Paint or stain the unit and then drill pilot holes into the top face of each side of the unit and screw in the hooks to hold your ironing board. Mount the shelf on drywall using screw-in wall anchors.
Auditing: MSF has an auditing policy that allows for students who have successfully completed a training level (Basic, Intermediate, Master-Level) to enroll again in the same level in order to deepen their mastery. Auditing is available on a space available basis for 50% of the standard tuition. Auditing students do not receive a second Certificate of Accomplishment. Please note that auditing (for a reduced fee) is not available for individual Project & Skills Workshops that are not also part of the professional training (see Concurrent Classes).
We do the busy work — Instead of standing in line to use one of our planers, Lonnie and his assistant plane the lumber for the Woodworking Essentials project before your class begins. This is an important difference between our school and the others: because we plane the boards you’ll spend more of your valuable time learning the enjoyable and important stuff—such as cutting dovetails, learning to sharpen and use hand tools effectively, bandsawing and carving a leg or precisely fitting a drawer.
Woven throughout the course will be presentations on the history of furniture making, the evolution of furniture styles and a review of contemporary styles. We’ll also do demonstrations on some advanced techniques such as shaping and using curved forms, drawer making, carcass construction, steam-bending, lamination, inlay, chairmaking, veneering, marquetry, and some contemporary joinery techniques.

It’s possible to drill an access channel in the stand through which you can run a charging cable, although this mini stripped back iPad stand may have very limited functions.
Industrial design degrees are similar to furniture design degrees. However, students working toward earning industrial design degrees don’t usually focus just on furniture. Instead, they focus on designing and building a number of different consumer products. Some of the areas that industrial design instructors might touch on may include toy design, automobile design, and product design.
