6.Change your lightbulbs. Nothing is more frustrating than light bulbs burning out, especially because replacing them is one of those things you put on the to-do list and immediately forget about. Take the time to replace all of those lights for a brighter, happier space. In your bedroom or den, try opting for lower wattage lights (between 20- and 50-watts) to create a cozier and more romantic ambience. Here is a great guide to lighting your home.
All About Wood: What are the different characteristics of wood – how does each move, shrink, expand, respond – and how does one allow for all of this in design and building? How do different woods respond to tooling and machinery? What are practical considerations in selecting woods for different types of furniture – along with aesthetic considerations, finishing characteristics, issues with availability, cost, purchase sources, and environmental considerations?
Flip the towel right side down. To determine where to place the tabs, center a spatula atop one of the towel’s shorter ends, and use straight pins to mark the spatula’s width. Place a tab at each pinned point, slightly over- lapping the tabs with the top of the towel. Make sure that each tab’s closed side lines up with the pins and that the open sides face each other. Remove the pins, then topstitch both tabs in place. Repeat on the towel’s other short end.
Hand Tool Selection & Use: In these classes we explore various hand tools such as chisels, hand planes, handsaws, etc. and train students how to use them safely and maintain them well. We go over various characteristics of different tools and make recommendations based on experience. Students will learn how to select the perfect tool for the perfect result.
Aside from the privacy it offers, a latticework porch trellis is a perfect way to add major curb appeal to your home for $100 or less. The trellis shown here is made of cedar, but any decay-resistant wood like redwood, cypress or treated pine would also be a good option. Constructed with lap joints for a flat surface and an oval cutout for elegance, it’s a far upgrade from traditional premade garden lattice. As long as you have experience working a router, this project’s complexity lies mostly in the time it takes to cut and assemble. Get the instructions complete with detailed illustrations here.
A super simple iPad Dock/stand made out of a single block of wood features an angled groove which gets to support the tablet device and a cut in a hole to revise access to the home button of your iPad. It’s possible to drill an access channel in the stand through which you can run a charging cable, although this mini stripped back iPad stand may have very limited functions.

Because of his years of professional woodworking, his knowledge is broad. He’s also written six woodworking books as well as numerous articles for Fine Woodworking magazine.
Toy-making was a special occupation of the the School's former kindergarten program in its earliest decades. The training offered young, mostly poor children not only brand new toys but also a set of usable skills. Today, with support from Thos. Moser, NBSS reflects on this legacy with a limited edition of 10 "Little Folks" Rockers lovingly handmade by School artisans. These charming collectors' items will benefit the Toys for Tots program, bringing joy and new toys to less fortunate children at Christmas.
Cut six strips of fabric from one towel. Two, measuring 33⁄4"W x 141⁄4"L each, will serve as the decorative horizontal bands at the top of the tote and should incorporate the towel’s graphics (as shown, left). The other four, measuring 31⁄2"W x 8"L, will form tabs for the bag’s handles. Turn under the long sides of each strip and press a 1⁄4" hem.
Slice, dice and serve in style on this easy, attractive board. We’ll show you a simple way to dry-fit the parts, scribe the arc and then glue the whole thing together. We used a 4-ft. steel ruler to scribe the arcs, but a yardstick or any thin board would also work. Find complete how-to instructions on this woodworking crafts project here. Also, be sure to use water-resistant wood glue and keep your board out of the dishwasher or it might fall apart. And one more thing: Keep the boards as even as possible during glue-up to minimize sanding later. For great tips on gluing wood, check out this collection.
Some tools required to build a picture frame are a table saw, miter saw, measuring tape, wood glue etc. A table saw with a backing board and miter gauge can be used to get the right angle and lengths of picture frame every time. You can use builders square to arrange the final cut pieces before nailing, screwing or gluing. Check out the video tutorial below for more details.
Yes Seriously! You can build an easy bed frame yourself without any other’s help. As everyone knows the starting point of any bedroom is a gorgeous bed.
