Slice, dice and serve in style on this easy, attractive board. We’ll show you a simple way to dry-fit the parts, scribe the arc and then glue the whole thing together. We used a 4-ft. steel ruler to scribe the arcs, but a yardstick or any thin board would also work. Find complete how-to instructions on this woodworking crafts project here. Also, be sure to use water-resistant wood glue and keep your board out of the dishwasher or it might fall apart. And one more thing: Keep the boards as even as possible during glue-up to minimize sanding later. For great tips on gluing wood, check out this collection.
Flip the towel right side down. To determine where to place the tabs, center a spatula atop one of the towel’s shorter ends, and use straight pins to mark the spatula’s width. Place a tab at each pinned point, slightly over- lapping the tabs with the top of the towel. Make sure that each tab’s closed side lines up with the pins and that the open sides face each other. Remove the pins, then topstitch both tabs in place. Repeat on the towel’s other short end.

Auditing:  MSF has an auditing policy that allows for students who have successfully completed a training level (Basic, Intermediate, Master-Level) to enroll again in the same level in order to deepen their mastery.  Auditing is available on a space available basis for 50% of the standard tuition.  Auditing students do not receive a second Certificate of Accomplishment.  Please note that auditing (for a reduced fee) is not available for individual Project & Skills Workshops that are not also part of the professional training (see Concurrent Classes).
We mentor each student to develop the advanced skills needed to express their own inspired, distinctive style.  For example, we may explore the design nuances and practical considerations of working with specialized, exotic woods and surface textures, along with associated unique finishing techniques. We constantly seek those sweet, memorable moments when both instructor and student recognize the student’s shift into their next level of mastery.
Cabinets with heavy duty hidden hinges are nearly universal, with most home improvement stores putting these useful pieces of hardware at the center of their hinge options. These invisible hinges can be used in the 10.2 million kitchens or 14.2 million bathrooms that are remodeled annually, as they work on any cabinet door. While the main benefit of concealed hinges is to create a sleek, streamlined look for your cabinetry, there are several practical benefits as well.
The Penn Foster Career School Furniture and Cabinet Maker online program includes practical exercises and a Work Experience Option to give you hands-on training and field experience relative to your program and career goals. Toy-making was a special occupation of the the School's former kindergarten program in its earliest decades. The training offered young, mostly poor children not only brand new toys but also a set of usable skills. Today, with support from Thos. Moser, NBSS reflects on this legacy with a limited edition of 10 "Little Folks" Rockers lovingly handmade by School artisans. These charming collectors' items will benefit the Toys for Tots program, bringing joy and new toys to less fortunate children at Christmas.
This class is open to woodworkers who would like to broaden their approach to furniture making. What do we mean by this? We think it means you are a person who has decided to commit to learning furniture making; is yearning to develop a finer sense of design; has already acquired some woodworking skills and has a strong sense of the limitations of your own knowledge and skills.
I just don't get it, guys. Aren't you a large company that ships tons of stuff? How can you mess so much stuff up? Basic process control - you ship lots of Blum slides, right? Haven't you figured out how to package them? And why don't you check the email address you post on the website? When someone leaves the company, why don't you set up an auto-reply so that people emailing her know they won't be getting an answer? And when a customer is angry because you've shorted an order, why don't you FedEx overnight a replacement RIGHT AWAY, rather than use some cut-rate discount shipper?
Traditionally furniture makers learned their craft working as an apprentice in the Master Craftsman's shop.  We’re offering this course as a second step in a furniture making apprenticeship, building on woodworking skills by deepening your understanding of design, expanding your range of joinery and decorative techniques to build well designed and robust furniture.
There’s a lot of space above the shelf in most closets. Even though it’s a little hard to reach, it’s a great place to store seldom-used items. Make use of this wasted space by adding a second shelf above the existing one. Buy enough closet shelving material to match the length of the existing shelf plus enough for two end supports and middle supports over each bracket. Twelve-inch-wide shelving is available in various lengths and finishes at home centers and lumberyards.

Take just a few minutes to look back at how your days and weeks have been unfolding. What time of the day are you the most focused? Do you prefer to be more social at certain times of the day? Do you have difficulty concentrating after lunch or are you energized? Are there days when you can’t seem to sit still at your desk and others when you could work on the same project for hours?
Finishing:  It’s important to know how to select the right finish for the job and wood.  We train students in surface and material preparation, and in hand applied finishes such as oil, shellac, and varnishes.  Classes include selecting color and applying stains.  Specialty finishes such as French polishing are also covered along with training in how to use tools for finishing work and the proper use of fillers.
